TempSense® is a remote track temperature monitor (RTTMD). It is designed to be installed on a rail network track to regularly monitor and report the temperature of the rail and transmit alerts when critical rail temperatures are reached.

The TempSense® system is already in use on several UK rail networks, where it has demonstrated its effectiveness in detecting and monitoring track temperatures. With real-time updates and continuous logging capabilities, the system allows rail operators to intelligently plan train speeds, monitor track critical rail temperature (CRT), and keep the railway running as reliably as possible with improved passenger safety.

One of the key benefits of TempSense® is the improved worker safety it provides. The autonomous devices eliminates the need for staff to be on tracks to take and record readings, reducing costs, errors, and risk. The system alerts rail operators to potential issues via mobile devices and a dedicated dashboard, ensuring timely intervention and maintenance when required.

Designed for zero-maintenance and ultra-low power consumption, the TempSense® devices are rechargeable, with the battery lasting > 12 months to further enhance their efficiency and environmental friendliness. The long design life of the devices ensures a lasting investment in rail network safety and reliability.

In addition to monitoring track temperature, RailSense also provides solutions for measuring lateral movement and voiding through their VoidSense® product, and flooding and silt level sensing in drainage assets through TrackWater. Their track based products operate on high-speed lines, with the ability to be used on high-speed switches and crossings, further expanding their applicability across various rail networks.

“The Network Rail approval of our TempSense® system is a significant milestone for RailSense and a testament to the innovation and effectiveness of our technology in enhancing the safety and reliability of rail networks,” said Tristan Lloyd-Baker, Director of RailSense. “We are committed to developing advanced solutions that address the evolving challenges faced by the rail industry, and we are excited to see the positive impact TempSense® will have on rail operations across the UK and beyond.”

RailSense’s VoidSense® Receives Network Rail Approval: Advanced Track Safety Monitoring Solution for Rail Networks

Emsworth, UK, 19th May 2023

RailSense, a leading innovator in railway safety and maintenance technology, is proud to announce that its cutting-edge VoidSense® system has received Network Rail approval for use in the United Kingdom across all line types including high speed switches and crossings. VoidSense® is a revolutionary rail track void meter (RTVMD) measuring absolute deflection and track temperature monitor, designed to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability on rail networks by detecting under-track voids remotely and before the occurrence of failure.

The VoidSense® system is already in use on several UK, European and North American rail networks, where it has demonstrated its effectiveness in detecting and monitoring track movement and voiding, as well as providing real-time temperature monitoring. With real-time updates and continuous logging capabilities, the system allows rail operators to intelligently plan train speeds, prevent track voiding and buckling, and keep the railway running as reliably as possible with improved passenger safety.

Through the combination of temperature, weather, and solar radiation data, RailSense can build a comprehensive picture of the rail network’s condition, providing valuable analytics to assist in the design and maintenance of the rail infrastructure. The continuous detection of void conditions offered by VoidSense® also results in cost savings during maintenance cycles, as voids can be identified long before a settlement or encroachment becomes an issue. The trending of displacement data enables predictive maintenance and the imposition of safe speed limits on relevant sections of the rail network.

One of the key benefits of VoidSense® is the improved worker safety it provides. The autonomous devices eliminate the need for staff to be on tracks to take and record readings, reducing costs, errors, and risk. The system alerts rail operators to potential issues via mobile devices and a dedicated dashboard, ensuring timely intervention and maintenance when required.

Designed for zero-maintenance and ultra-low power consumption, the VoidSense® devices are rechargeable, with solar charging capabilities to further enhance their efficiency and environmental friendliness. The long design life of the devices ensures a lasting investment in rail network safety and reliability.

In addition to monitoring track movement and voiding, VoidSense® includes a temperature monitor to measure both track and ambient temperature. This feature allows the system to operate on high-speed lines, with the ability to be used on high-speed switches and crossings, further expanding its applicability across various rail networks.

“The Network Rail approval of our VoidSense® system is a significant milestone for RailSense and a testament to the innovation and effectiveness of our technology in enhancing the safety and reliability of rail networks,” said Andy Chick, Managing Director of RailSense. “We are committed to developing advanced solutions that address the evolving challenges faced by the rail industry, and we are excited to see the positive impact VoidSense® will have on rail operations across the UK and beyond.”

RailSense announces the launch of Flood Detection solution for rail – TrackWater

RailSense, a leading provider of innovative IoT solutions for the rail industry, has announced the launch of TrackWater, a new addition to their suite of railway monitoring and reporting products. TrackWater is a sensor and data-driven product designed to reduce the incidence of flooding on the rail network and improve safety for passengers and operatives.

TrackWater uses IoT sensors and data modelling to better manage and predict the maintenance of railway assets. By proactively managing drainage assets, maintenance costs, flood events, and delay minutes are reduced. This approach improves safety for passengers and operatives, while also reducing the impact of flooding on the rail network.

Utilising technologies pioneered on the highways, TrackWater was developed through a consortium including Network Rail, Lancaster University and Connected Places Catapult.
It was co-funded by the Department of Transport and Innovate UK. The TrackWater technology has now been adapted to meet the need to manage surface water within rail
and reduce the impact of flooding on the network and is Network Rail approved.

TrackWater brings a comprehensive approach to surface water management within rail, utilising advanced technologies and data analysis to provide rail operators with the tools they need to manage their assets more effectively.

Speaking about the launch of TrackWater, RailSense Managing Director Andy Chick said,

“We are delighted to announce the launch of TrackWater, which is a new and innovative product in our suite of rail products. The use of IoT sensors and data modelling is critical to managing railway assets more effectively and improving safety for all stakeholders. With TrackWater, we are bringing the best of highway management technologies to the rail industry, helping rail operators to reduce maintenance costs and improve safety for their passengers and operatives.”

TrackWater is designed to be user-friendly, with an intuitive interface that makes it easy to monitor the status of drainage assets and predict maintenance needs. By using advanced data analytics, TrackWater can also provide real-time alerts and predictive maintenance recommendations, allowing rail operators to take proactive measures to reduce the impact of flooding on their network.

RAILSENSE JOINS RIA AND RBD COMMUNITY

Next stop for RailSense: RIN York on Thursday 17th November

9th November 2022

RailSense reduces operational costs for railway infrastructure monitoring.

RailSense Solutions Ltd are heading to York where they will be showcasing the RailSense platform at the Rail Infrastructure Networking event at York Racecourse on 17th November 9.30 – 12.30pm.

RailSense experts will be on hand to discuss the range of IoT monitoring and remote sensor solutions for rail infrastructure safety.

Geographically dispersed infrastructure assets across the rail network are challenging and expensive to monitor. Rail operators, asset maintenance and infrastructure owners can now do this much more safely and cost effectively utlising RailSense’s IoT platform and technologies. The remote condition monitoring and predictive maintenance of railway infrastructure increases safety for both rail staff and passengers as well as enabling optimisation of rail infrastructure lifecycle costs and renewal strategies to maximise availability and operational efficiency.

“We are looking forward to presenting our growing range of sensing products to the attendees at the RIN event. This follows our successful showcasing at InnoTrans in Berlin and RailLive in Warwickshire earlier in the year.”
said Andy Chick, Director, RailSense.
